Acne is a traumatic skin disease, which is caused generally when the pores (also known as follicles) get blocked and the oil (also known as sebum) cannot flow as it naturally does in order to get eliminated from the body.

Bad News And Good News

The bad news is that acne cannot be cured, however, the good news is that in can be prevented, control and outgrown efficiently so you may never have an out break.

The age group attacked the most by this skin problem is the teenagers but not only as acne rosacea occurs after the age of 30 and don’t forget that once you are prone to acne it may reoccur anytime should you not take the necessary measures to prevent and control acne.

Better Prevent Than Cure

Anyone will agree when I say it is better to prevent than cure any disease and those who have suffered from acne are more than willing to do anything it takes to prevent any further outbreaks. Here are a few suggestions, which have proved to work best in the majority of cases.

Monitor your diet closely. In other words, try and avoid greasy foods, which are bad for you anyway. Drink the recommended amount of water daily, which is 8 glasses of water or more during summer when your body gets easily dehydrated. Stress causes skin disorders, as well, and, therefore, a proper sleep pattern and relaxation is indicated.

Cleaning your face regularly with specific anti-acne products is yet another great way to control acne and prevent it at the same time. The acne cleaning process consists of a several steps such as: scrubbing, cleansing and toning which if done regularly will give you outstanding results.

Other Ways To Prevent And Control Acne

Other popular ways to prevent and control acne is through medication and specific designed creams. However, before choosing which one is suitable for you consult your doctor so he/she can determine your skin type and specific requirements.

There are as well natural and herbal remedies to control acne that work wonders but again you have to be get it approved with your doctor before you try and use any of them.

Helpful Tip

Remember that any treatment for acne will work as long as you continue to follow the indications given by your doctor and the duration of the treatment. Healthy skin is achievable when you take the time to invest in taking care of it and preventing any future out breaks.

Those of us who have suffered from acne know that it is both a painful and traumatic skin disease. There are many treatments available for acne but what I would suggest is to practice acne prevention in order not to have to deal with the outbreaks at all.

What Is Acne?

Acne is a skin abnormality, which is caused due to clogging of the pores, when the pores get blocked, the oil or sebum cannot get to the surface and causes acne. There are many types of acne but the most encountered types are: acne vulgaris, which usually occurs in adolescents and acne rosacea, which usually occurs in adults over 30.

Acne cannot be cured but it can be treated and gradually grown out of with specific treatments that are applicable to your skin type. Acne prevention however, is the best way to tackle this skin disease in order to always have the healthy and glowing skin that we all want.

Acne Prevention Steps And Measures

Acne prevention starts from home with the basic simple things such as maintaining a healthy diet, which excludes greasy foods and other items indicated by your dietician or doctor. Water intake is yet another important factor which can affect your metabolism; the suggested intake of water should be of 6-8 glasses a day and possibly more in the summer time as due to excessive heat your body perspires and looses water in the process.

Stress is yet another factor that causes acne and that is yet another reason to visit the spa, relax, take regular vacations and sleep at least 7 – 9 hours a night.

There are many acne prevention products, which you can use regularly to avoid an outbreak. However, before you start any acne prevention treatment be sure to consult your doctor in order to ensure that you are using the right product.

Helpful Tips

It is essential that you consult a skin special before you start any acne treatment; only a doctor can establish what type of treatment you should follow and for how long as there are many varieties available and some may not be suitable for your skin type.

Another small yet very important detail is to ensure that you carry every acne treatment out and not stop in between or overlap it with another; any such alteration may in fact trigger an outbreak or irritate your skin further.

Most teenagers, at some point in time, have heard the clichéd words that acne is just part of growing up. How they hate those words from their parents or physicians because they feel the ones saying it have no idea what they’re going through. The truth is that it is highly likely that a parent or other adult knows exactly what the teenager is going through because they have been there themselves, not too long ago.

In order to exercise patience with our kids who have matured from messy toddlers to teenagers with hormonal havoc, we need to remind ourselves that they have a short term view of life. Everything is for now and, at the most, for tomorrow. They haven’t seen life to plan ahead or are not able to look past a particular obstacle.

Outward Appearances

Teenagers also focus greatly on outward appearances. Regardless of how messy their room is at home, they want to look great when going to school. Acne is something they can not hide and hence despair when they hear consolation from parents with clear skin.

They feel succumbed to peer pressure when cheeky thirteen year olds make jokes or pass sarcastic comments like ‘pimple face’ and the like. They are at a vulnerable age where they get impressed with celebrities and wonder why teenage stars do not have acne problems if they are the same age. Little do they understand is that what they see on glossy magazine covers or in the movies is a result of hours of professional grooming, styling – and air brushing too!

They feel helpless as the over-the-counter acne medication doesn’t provide dramatic overnight miraculous results. They want everything done yesterday and can not wait for a few days or weeks to pass to see results. Instead, they try to expedite the process by self-medicating or picking at pimples, only making matters worse.

Acne comes unannounced and despite myths that greasy food or sugary drinks can aggravate it, it can attack any unsuspecting sixteen year old, even on the night before her prom. The perfect dress that she spent weeks looking for seems a waste when she sees the sudden outbreak of acne on her face. Unfortunately, layers of make-up may just worsen the case instead of improving it.

What we need to teach by example to our young and impressionable children, is how we understand this may be hard for them, but that we should all focus on inner beauty- in ourselves and in others. Acne may go after a few years, but a disease or a disability may affect your –or your loved ones – outward appearance later on in life, and if you appreciated what’s on the inside, you will never even notice the difference.

The Cause Of Acne Revisited

What are the causes of acne? There are many myths out there about different things, like greasy food, being the cause of acne. The fact is, the cause of acne is not entirely known. Doctors know what factors can make acne worse, but what makes one person have acne and another person not have it is still unknown.

Many believe acne is caused by genetics. It seems to be that if your parents struggled with acne as teens, you will too. Heredity is a possible cause of acne. If you struggled with acne, do not be surprised if you children do as well.

Puberty seems to be a cause of acne onset. Doctors believe that the hormones, which are called androgens, which are increased during puberty, may be a cause of acne. The androgens make the sebaceous gland enlarge. When it enlarges, it creates more sebum, which clogs the pores and can be a cause of acne. Similarly, the hormones associated with a woman’s menstrual cycle can bring on an onset of acne. The same applies to pregnancy hormones. Stress also brings on hormonal changes and can cause acne flair ups.

There seems to be an indication that certain drugs, including lithium and androgens, can be a cause of acne. And yes, cosmetics can make acne worse, because many cosmetics are grease based, and the grease can cause the follicle cells to stick together, creating clogged pores. Finally, irritants to the skin, such as tight collars or backpacks, can create or worsen acne breakouts.

Common Myths About Acne

But there are many common myths about the cause of acne. For example, has your grandmother ever told you that eating chocolate can make acne breakouts happen? Simply not true. Food has very little affect on causing acne. There seems to be an indication that long-term changes in your diet can help reduce acne, but it is not a cause.

Also, another myth says that someone with acne has dirty skin. Dirt is not a cause of acne. It seems to be that hormones and grease are more likely the causes of acne breakouts. People with acne can clean their skin as much as they want, and it will not affect the acne, unless they are using cleansers that reduce the oil in the skin. Oil in the skin can be a legitimate cause of acne.

So the next time you face an acne breakout, realize that it is not likely something you did. Take measures to clear up the breakout, and go about your life. There is little you can do to keep acne from occurring.

One of the most important factors we all are concerned with every single day is our appearance. We all want to look presentable, be healthy and have skin that glows. However, at times, our skin suffers; different types of diseases such as acne vulgaris, which is hard, painful and hard to cure often occur

How Does Acne Vulgaris Occur?

Our skin releases natural oils (also known as sebum) through the pores (also known as follicles), when these pores are blocked for reasons still not clearly known by doctors, acne is formed.

Acne vulgaris is the most common type of acne and it manifests in various forms such as: whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. You may have one or all of the above mentioned forms of acne vulgaris as they all form the same way but are each treated very differently.

Treating Acne Vulgaris

The first thing to do when you have an acne outbreak is to determine what type it is as well as your skin type in order to proceed for a treatment pattern. Even if many insist that acne can be cured, the truth is as research found out that there is no cure but only treatment which will help you out grow the outbreak; this does not mean you may never have an attack again.

There are many treatments for acne vulgaris some of which include natural remedies and others the traditional drugs and creams. Determining what is right for you should not be done through word of mouth or through other’s experiences but with precise diagnosis from your doctor. Only your doctor can test your skin type and decide what combination of creams and medications may work best in your case. Remember we are all different and what may work great on some may in fact have no effect on your skin.

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

Research shows that it is better to prevent acne vulgaris even before it outbreaks and thus, keeping it under control is a lot easier than dealing with the full-blown acne vulgaris outbreak. So, if you had acne before or your doctor suggests you are predisposition to the diseases, it may be a wise choice to start a prevention treatment.

It is also very important that you don’t stop a treatment mid way because the acne cured or because you don’t see any change, in both cases you must finish the treatment and then decide on the next step otherwise you may cause yourself more damage and pain in the process.

Acne vulgaris can be kept under control and can be prevented as well as it can be out grown naturally with patience and perseverance, which I know we must impose on ourselves if we want that glowing healthy skin back.
